About
Medya Diagnostic Centre (MDC) offers full service diagnostics to the public and
private sectors. MDC is positioned to be responsive to the needs of the health system;
developing and implementing new tests and methods that are not available in the
region, or were previously performed internationally.
MDC is a state of the art laboratory; complete with new generation automated analysers and a computerised Laboratory Information System (LIS). The LIS will house our patient database and test results. It is networked to our automated analysers ensuring correct, accurate and traceable results. The laboratory is able to service more than 3000 samples per day.
Medya Diagnostic Centre is work side-by-side with the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Kurdish and Iraqi medical community to introduce an improved model of medical services.
MDC is the first Laboratory in the region to achieve International Accreditation as a Quality Provider of Medical Testing under the International Standard ISO 15189:2007 Medical laboratories - particular requirements for quality and competence.
Accreditation looks at the management of medical laboratories; covering the organizational and quality assurance activities required to ensure that pre examination, examination and post examination activities of the laboratories are conducted in such a manner that they meet the needs and requirements of the user.
MDC is technologically the flagship of both Clinical Pathology Laboratory and Radiology Services for the Region. We take pride in providing services for the Iraqi people who had in the past been deprived from this high level of laboratory services and had to travel to surrounding countries for services of this kind. We further want to expand and extend our services on genetic and other faster diagnostic services for disease and monitoring thereof and plan for a molecular laboratory in the near future. We also plan to be more involved in teaching of medical students especially on a post graduate level. Although we have experienced growing pains we have turned this into challenges and I and my team are optimistic about the future of MDC.
We want quality services that will assist the medical fraternity with accurate diagnosis of key health problems like diabetes, hyperlipidemias, cancer, inborn genetic diseases like thalassemias, with among others like Brucellosis to mention a few, that are so typical of the region.MDC is designed to take several thousand patients a day. We want to live up to our slogan that states ‘Striving for excellence to improve service delivery’.
We are looking forward to a constructive engagement with key role players both from the public and private sectors to form strategic alliances to improve the health of each and every person and family in the Kurdistan Region and greater Iraq. I invite the larger public to visit us and to see our facilities for themselves, whether you are a clinician or just a member of the public.

MDC is a Public Private Partnership between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and Raziana Company LLC and it was indeed a great occasion when the then Prime Minister of Kurdistan Regional Government, His Excellency Nechirvan Barzani opened the Centre on the 21st of July 2009, although unofficially MDC’s doors had been open to the public since October 2008.MDC is technologically the flagship of both Clinical Pathology Laboratory and Radiology Services for the Region.
